Did you know the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures houses the second largest collection of Losel Dolls in the world?
At 6 pm Thursday, July 24, join us for a special evening celebrating the artistry and cultural heritage of Tibet and its fascinating Losel figurines. The presentation will be led by longtime Museum staff member Leisa Taylor, who brings a decade of experience and deep knowledge to this fascinating topic.
Losel Dolls were handcrafted by exiled Tibetan monks living in India to preserve and celebrate the rich traditions of Tibetan life, dress, and ritual. These intricate dolls are clothed in authentic, hand-stitched garments representing specific regions, social roles, and ceremonies from Tibetan culture.
Leisa will guide guests through the history, symbolism, and detailed craftsmanship behind the dolls, highlighting how they serve as powerful tools for cultural preservation, especially within the Tibetan diaspora. Attendees will also learn about how the collection came to the Museum and its ongoing significance in cross-cultural education.
Whether you are an art enthusiast, a cultural explorer, or simply curious, this is a rare opportunity to delve into the meaningful miniature world of the Losel Dolls. Admission is $10 per person, and registration is requested at globalvillagemuseum.org. Light refreshments will be served.
The Global Village Museum is located at 200 West Mountain Avenue, and Museum hours are 11 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday. For more information and closure dates during the change of exhibits, visit globalvillagemuseum.org or call 970-221-46 00.
